Shadow of Glamour
Chantal Joffe, Graham Little, Tomoaki Suzuki

4 March - 2 April 2000

One in the Other's new show, and first of the year, brings together three artists focusing on the contemporary subject. A study is made by way of clothing, gender, and influences of stylistic identity into how myriad appearances speak of a tradition of sensibilities and sentient beings. By hazily casting on the underside of notions of desirability and psychology the works on show attempt to spread a gaze away from surface interactions into more Delphian domains and enclaves.

From an ongoing view of young girls and upwards, Chantal Joffe's enigmatic portrayal of women can be found in poses reminiscent of Cindy Sherman.

For some time Graham Little has used the pages of fashion magazines as a source for combining formal sculpture with painting. Here alongside a sculpture are new pencil drawings made of fashion models.

Carving wood with a traditional Japanese technique Tomoaki Suzuki has produced a series of miniature studies of friends and acquaintances.
